Subject: Cooling system draining question
Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII

Hello all,

I'm changing my antifreeze for the first time today and have a question. Using the Bentley manual under Engine-Cooling System (page 19.15 in the latest edition) it instructs to clamp off hoses and drain the engine. I wanted to drain all the antifreeze but now I have blocked off the rear heater and the radiator. Am I missing something? Is there some reason why these shouldn't be drained: bleeding problem? Any helpful replys needed ASAP as my van is sitting outside drained right now.

My head gaskets look like crap. Once I fill the cooling system back up I'm going to try stopleak if that doesn't work, off with it's head(s).

Why would VW make it necessary to remove 4 exhaust nuts/bolts to drain the coolant? It makes no sense.

TIA for any response, Bill '91 Carat
