    Here in SOCal there are a couple of Pick-Your-Part type of yards
that sell complete motors under 500$.  The cheapest place is 175.00$ and
they will have the motor pulled for you , their selection of Audis is
very good so it might be a cheap thing to swap out for a 5 cylinder
motor after all.
