The Wife & I got to ride in Robert's (vwvanman@excite.com) Vanagon this weekend... He has done a fabulous job of making the motor that VW COULD have built, if they could have charged an extra grand for the Vanagon. It isn't a "Hot Rod", but just pours out smooth, torquey power without noise, glamour, or seriously "trick" parts. He used a counterweighted crank, ceramic & moly coated parts, a very slight cam, and some smart head/valve/valve-train work to make a motor that runs like a sewing machine, and pushes like a bull. The new 5-speed tranny puts 70 mph at around 2.9 on the tach. Nice. Lift the hood, and it is all stock. Press the accelerator, and it is silky thrust. Good Job, Rob. Here's to the hope you will take it to Buggout in Manassas for all to see. G. Matthew Bulley Bulley-Hewlett & Associates Cary, NC USA www.bulley-hewlett.com (888) 468-4880 toll free |
