I've never posted about my experience renting a westy from California Campers (http://www.vanagon.com/rental/) but I don't think I'd rent one from them again. It wasn't until Sorin (the owner) brought the THIRD vehicle out to my mother's house in Walnut Creek that we even made it out of town; during the trip we made two stops to mechanics, and eventually abandoned the van in Oregon. The first vehicle I attempted to rent on this particular trip had no brakes, which I found out when I hit the stop sign at the bottom of Sorin's hill and coasted throgh the intersection! The second vehicle had (I think) a bad wheel bearing, but I didn't really figure this out until I drove from San Francisco to Walnut Creek. (Those SF streets are bad!) Caution advised.
