Jim, if the charging light is glowing, even if the ignition is off, then the diodes in the alternator are shot, and the alternator is "leaking" current from the battery. The diode holder is a replaceable item, though, and should be readily available. I think most Bosch alternators use the same diode plate. The alternator would still be charging, though.
