I went to BurningMan last year for the first time. The cost per person goes towards infrastructure, including the following:

1) Streets are layed down, lampposts are raised, and every night the streets are lit with kerosene lamps. 2) The Man is built and lit with neon every night at the center of the city. 3) Porta-potties are supplied, though not emptied often enough. (Eeeuuuw.) 4) Streets are watered down to reduce dust. 5) A fairly large force of Danger Rangers is mobilized to protect us. 6) Center Camp gets a power grid. 7) Two weeks after Burning Man, all evidence of Black Rock City has disappeared.

If you've never visited Black Rock City, I urge you to become a citizen. But remember, you must participate. NO SPECTATORS.
