Jeff, <This is my opinion only regarding the service that I received from John at Fast German Auto.> I recently bought a remaned 091 transaxle from these guys and so far-so good. With the trans itself, I am pleased so far.

However I do have a negative to relate. John at customer service leaves a lot to be desired regarding follow through. He made several promises that he never kept. Several key shipping dates/promises were missed and it affected my service schedule and such. He even "forgot" to include a shifter rebuild kit which I ordered at the same time as the trans itself. After ordering everything I had hom read it back to me to double check the order. The shifter kit wasn't even on the invoice. He did overnight it at his expense and it hasn't shown on my statement as of yet. Since then, I e-mailed them on 3-8 <5 days ago> with a question regarding what brand the syncros inside the trans are and haven't even heard a "we got it, but don't know, we'll research it in the meantime" type of response and it's 5 days later.

With any vendor, I make absolutely clear what items are replaced, brand new, remachined, etc. How long have they been in business? How long have they been doing this ...whatever.

In hindsight I would like to have talked to Todd in WA but I didn't know about him then. He sounds really expert and an overall good guy to do business with, just from the tone of his posts to the list.

I included Fast German Auto in the cc: because I wanted them to know that; on this mailing list with some 700 members, we (vw types, I mean) talk a great deal regarding vendors and the level of service, quality of parts, etc. I got the feeling that John's attitude was, "I/we can really do whatever, however I like and this guy can never affect me." Touche.

Just my .10 (inflation)
