ECU's almost never go bad. It's obvious you did not need one. The very next time this happens, reset the computer by turning the ignition switch off and back on after 1 second. If the engine runs OK for the next several seconds you can rule out most mechanical problems. For example, a bad wire, or a clogged fuel filter will not fix itself by this.
