If you have purchased the 17 MM allen wrench then consider doing this: I cut approximately 1 inch off the short end of the L and use that piece to get into the space that is between the exhaust and the plug . Take a look at the distance and figure out just how much you will need. Then from here on out you have your special 17 mm front drain plug tool and it will work on any VW or Audi transaxle drain plug. You will still have a viable tool with what is left of the allen I know that this is not optimal,I would rather not cut up a new tool but I have not found a separate allen tool for this application. I used a hacksaw to cut the allen . Take your time and try to make a nice straight cut. I might get flamed for cutting a tool but I have never used the 17 mm allen for anything other than transaxle drain plugs and now I have exactly the tools that work for what I am trying to do.
