Subject: Rear hatch droops, mirrors won't stay in place

I've got an '84 Vanagon.

The rear hatch droops to a very dangerous level. Is there a way to adjust the mechanisms that hold up the hatch? Or do those need to be replaced? If so, can I do that myself, and where is the best place to get the parts near San Francisco?

Also, my side mirrors are having trouble staying in place. Is there a way to tighten those?

Many thanks in advance.

Justin Gordon
