The cheapest "mechanism" is an old broom Stick (my wife my have an extra one laying around). ;-)

for the mirrors take them off the doors tighten the nut inside the mirror, be careful though, too much torque and the bolt might sheer off. new mirrors from vendors run approx 20 bucks.
