I have one on my otherwise stock 1.9l. The difference in power, especially climbing hills and overall acceleration is well worth the money. I installed it at 103000 miles had a new long block installed at 116000 and am now at 128459, all since April of '97. For those of you in the San Diego area and familiar with the Coronado Bridge will understand this. Without the filter I was struggling to get over in 3rd. Then after it could take it in 4th with plenty of pedal left over. At the time I also installed a set of splitfire plugs. I don't know which to attribute it too, but the difference was astounding. Since then I went to AC Delco platinum and the mileage is still the same. Also, my mileage increased from 17mpg in town to 20-21mpg in town. One thing the Navy taught me was to keep a good log book of everything. Also those figures are with a Westfalia.

Has anybody on the list that has tried them or knows something about them have any good/bad comments on the high priced ($36.95 from http://www.macneilauto.com/KNProd.htm ) K&N air filters. They claim they last a million miles and need to be "recharged" with a filter service kit ($9.95) around every 50,000 miles. Are they worth the extra money, or should one stick with a normal one like the Bosch air filter that Bus Depot sells for $8.95 or the heavy duty genuine VW air filters that they sell for $16.95?

Thanks,

Steve
