The subaru conversion is different than either the 5-cylinder conversion or the Eurospec conversion in two important ways. One it is not a VW powerplant. I am not super prejudiced about this but it is nice to keep the van all VW if you possibly can. Makes it a little easier when ordering parts and working on the vehicle you get to see familiar VW parts. The other thing is that the 5-cylinder motor in the Vanagon as well as the 4-cylinder are stock setups on Vanagons in South Africa as we speak. They are proven applications of these motors that have been proven to work well with the van, last long, and provide adequate power. The subaru conversion cannot say this. Nuff said.
