Wil; I just replaced a CV joint. It was no walk in the park. I rounded out two of the allen head bolts on the outer CV. Of course it was the outer one; the inner ones you usually can get of with a pair of vice grips. No such luck on the outer joints since they are inside the suspension's A-frame. I ended up having to drill the heads off the stripped bolts. About thirty minutes of uncomfortable, neck cramping work, per bolt! Yes I used the proper 6mm allen socket from Cra*tman. It was about twenty years old and looking a little worn so I traded it for a new one hoping that would put an end to the rounded bolts. No such luck, I still reamed out one of the new bolts. New CVs are only $50, if you are going through all that work I would just put a new one on. Especially if it is an outer! Also replace the rubber boots.
