Some makes it into the air, and some (as dust that has settled) goes into the ground. But by-in-large, it goes into streams near roadways. In Environmental Biology, we took a sample of run-off from a local road (on it's way into a local stream). It hadn't rained in a few weeks, so there was a pretty fair build up of cr*p on the road. It was amazing to see how filthy the water was. Lots of oil, tire shavings, metal, huge amounts of trash (gum wrappers, HUNDREDS & HUNDREDS of cigarette butts). Needless to say, it was a "dead" stream.

With driveshaft on, my front tires resist tight turns. During <<<SNIP>>>

Because it's Friday, here's an environmental trivia question. Where does tire tread go when it gets worn off?
