After visiting the link, I believe that I see the problem. The sixteenth pic shows the outer cage as the 'proper' location to whallop the CV to remove. Two problems here, 1.) IF you're going to remove the CV with a hammer, use a brass drift and apply the force to the inner race. Pounding away on the outer race will damage the joint to the point that it will have to be replaced. And, 2.) a much better choice would be to visit your local automotive machine shop and have the CVs removed with a press. Much gentler method. Unless one is planning to pitch them and replace with new.
