I don't think so, at least not if you were thinking about reworking the crank. The crank needs this diameter, to accommodate the 5 fixing bolts for the flywheel. Reworking the case would be the only option, if you were to keep the wbx crank.

This is a guy that is putting in a supercharged wbx into the rear end of his 1978 Thing. At this moment, he is only using the 2,1 MV engine, but he has a complete 2,5 Oettinger wbx, where he is planning to do his tricks. He is using the Supercharger from the MB 230 SLK. Text in German only, but some pictures.
