Eckie, Hi. I had the same task a while back. Here's what you do. The screw at the bottom (inside the hole underneath the unit) needs to come out (keep an eye out for the spring that comes out with it). They have managed to engineer the darn thing so that you can't fit a regular sized screwdriver up from the bottom. I ended up using a smaller sized one (very small, infact) and bending it slightly to fit. It takes a little manuevering but it works. Anyway, once the screw is out, the outer housing comes off revealing two smaller screws. Remove those and you're done. Keep the screwdriver in your Vanagon toolbox or in the glovebox, as these latches come loose often. To reassemble, do the reverse. hope that helps.
