Dear List,
I'm happy to announce that I have just acquired a used TDI engine for installation in my 1987 Vanagon Syncro from ABC in Leominster MA. This engine was taken out of a 1997 Jetta that looked like it got into a fight with Godzilla. Price? $2000 with all accessories. Potential problem? the wiring harness is cut in one place where the crash severed the wires (don't know what happened to the PO). The good news is that ABC guarantees the engine and all accessories for 90 days.
I have also just ordered the TDI installation kit from Winkler in Germany as well as the special TD Syncro gastank which makes allowances for the starter.
Installation is presently scheduled for the month of May -- just in time for the VW shows here in New England in June.
I'll post progress from time to time. Wish me luck!!!
