     I am wrestling with the same question myself. Looking at the posts from
folks who have had our trouble it seems to be something of a crap shoot
between the harness and the cheap capacitor fix. For some the capacitor
cures the troubles while others report no effect with the capacitor but a
fix with the harness. That being the case the perscription seems to be:

1. Try the two buck capacitor

if that dosent work then:

2. Go for the $150 harness

Hi, sorry for so many questions.  Is it worth while to do the wiring
harness upgrade for my 86 vanagon?  The erratic running of the engine
and the intermittent loss of power is driving me crazy!
