Dear Graham,

After having emailed Detlev at length on this subject, it seems pretty clear to me that he most likely "converts" a US-certified Audi block from the required donor car into a "stroker" with a new crankshaft, pistons, and possibly the head -- all from South Africa. It appears as if the ECU and FI is from the donor. Result? A LEGAL engine block and fuel delivery setup with custom South African innards!

Lotsa work on Detlev's part, but it should work like a charm.

Expensive? Yes, but very possibly the "ultimate" Vanagon engine!

Cheers,

MJS
