I did nearly the exact thing, took a tach from an "83? Rabbit, removed the
clock from my 1980 Westy (the tick-tocking actually bothered me at night).
Had to slightly trim pieces off the tach plastic and deal with the foil
circuit but has worked well for over a year now and all in all wasn't that
hard to due.
