A couple months ago I spoke to Dave at Redline. I was looking for the best possible protection for the rebiult tranny in my overloaded/overpowered stretch.

He suggested shockproof heavy as the best protection. He advised me that there was the potential of it not shifting as well. I filled it up with shockproof heavy (to the bottom of the fill plug on a aircooled nose cone) and have had absolutly no trouble with it in the last 10K miles. Shifting has always felt normal. Only time will tell how it holds up.

BTW, the tranny came from KCR in Riverside. Kevin built it up with a 4.57 final, .77 fourth gear and 1.217 third. All forward gears are heavy duty steep cut "racing gears" which are a bit noisy in the lower gears. I'm very happy with it. The higher (lower ratio) 3rd and fourth are spaced well. With the A3 engine I can downshift to third as soon as a hill cuts into my 82 mph cruise speed. :-)
