Phillip, Sounds like you found it. The filler bolt is on the passenger side (US) just ahead of the linkage connection. The boot on the linkage was almost in my way when removed the plug. I used about four feet of 1/2" clear tubing and a funnel to refill the transmission. I noticed the two pictures in the Bentley too. Both images show the plug detached and don't show the hole. Good luck, Vernon -----Original Message----- From: Phillip Bouton [SMTP:pbouton@NACCHO.ORG] Sent: Monday, March 29, 1999 11:20 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: transmission filler bolt--where? I think I found the transmission filler bolt/hole on my 87 Westy but am not positive. It is a couple of inches up from the bottom of the transmission, the bolt is depressed into the transmission about millimeter, and there is a ridge around the hole on the transmission. It is maybe five to eight inches from the end of the transmission towards the front of the bus. I read in a previous post that it takes a 17 mm hex wrench that it feels like a hex bolt. Is that it? |
