FWIW, here in the PNW two of the biggies are Flying J and Pilot. Both are clean modern truck stops. I have 'camped' in their lots and have used their facilities. For showers, you just ask at the counter. If they're busy, have a seat in the cafe and they will call you when the shower is open. First choice is always a State Park, but the name truck stops are a good alternative. Regarding 'shady characters', must be a big city thing. Not too much of a problem once you leave the megalopolis. But, there can be trouble ANYWHERE. (Including Wal-Mart parking lots.) Wood burning stoves... I think that Hoover had a few words to say on the subject. I'll check the CD. (It was a loonnngggg time ago. Shortly after Grendel, I believe.) Might be on the type2 archives. http://vw.i405.com/ Jim Arnott WetWesties Union, OR |
