Copper or brass radiators are not as efficient as aluminum ones by a large factor. Not only that, but the they corrode more because of the solder. However, they can often be rebuilt. Another down side is that they are much heavier. A drop in the bucket for a vanagon, but still...

The tanks would be soldered on, not welded. I'm not even sure you can weld copper. You can get the original style radiator cheaper, and it will work better. A lot of the aftermarket radiators don't fit really well, and bit of bending and fabricating is often necessary to make them fit.
