Kari:

Couple of comments on your list of stuff to do and bring:

A while back I switched to synthetic motor oil, Mobil One 15w50 to be exact. It allows us to take long trips without having to hassle with oil changes on the road. I change between 7 & 8 thousand miles. I've put just about any motor fuel that'll burn into our van and have never had problems.

We went ahead and paid extra for AAA plus. We once had to be towed 26 miles from a desert campground to the closest service facility and that tow alone would have cost more than the extra $$. In addition, they no longer provide us with bogus Triptiks. (don't ask)
