David - This stuff is out of Articles 265 & 400 of New York's Penal Code. Of course, as of late, one obviously has to differentiate between what the local Gendarmes "get away with" AND the actual laws of NY, ESPECIALLY in NYC where it seems law-abiding citizens have more to worry about the cops carrying handguns than they do from their friends!

Obviously, while traveling with two daughters, part of their "job" should be to place the weapons in "encased", locked, devices within the Vanagon while the Gendarmes are pulling Mom over! ;)
