My personal opinion (now that we're flogging a dead horse) with the handgun is that if you have to ask the question, the answer is no.

Re the stungun, that would be a lot easier for a cop to let slide, IMHO, but they *are* illegal in a lot of places. I call it a tossup. Personally I think I'd leave it home.

A Mag-Lite (black aluminum flashlight) makes a dandy club, just ask a cop. And one end gives off this really useful radiation when you fiddle with the side. That's my vote.

And to keep this in perspective, I understand there are around 700 people on this list. I wonder if even one of us personally knows someone (no friends of friends) who was attacked while camping or on the road. Volks? Actually, I have to say that a couple of young Navy guys stationed with me in 1970 stopped to help someone alongside the road and were beaten (slightly) and robbed. Or, looking back with 25 years of hindsight, that is what they *said* happened. Young Navy guys have been known to elaborate a little on occasion. I myself stop alongside the road to help someone probably once a month for the last 30 years, never had a problem. And I'm not a big ugly bruiser that everyone knows not to mess with, I'm a computer guy by trade and inclination. The only physical thing I do is sail, and that not enough.
