Subject: How to mount audi 5000 turbo wheels on a vanagon

someone should post this in the vanagon FAQ...

to mount audi 5000 turbo, or audi 200 turbo, wheels on vanagon:

-get audi 5000 lug bolts. (if youre mounting this on a 2wd van) -get audi turbo 15" alloy wheels. (any 5 lug gas turbo audi from '81 up) -if you have a 2wd van - machine center hub hole of wheels to a smidge over 2.5" or about 2.5/8" your local machine shop should do this for about $10 a wheel. (syncro owners dont need to machine wheels - they fit w/o machining on a syncro) -use a thin spacer on front wheels (syncro may not need to do this) -no spacer needed on rear wheels, but you need to remove the stupid little bolts that hold the drum to the stub axle (these serve no purpose anyway) -for extra safety - get some Porsche 911 studs (theyre longer) to mount in place of the stock ones. the stock studs are sufficient, but the nut wont bite down quite as much. these are avail aftermarket at you local auto parts store. (or Ken wilford can get you these) use stock vanagon nuts for mounting wheels. you CANT use the audi center cap. you CAN use the vanagon carat alloy center cap, tho. if you run 205-60-15 tires, it sits at the stock height. you can go up from there. for pics of the audi turbo wheels on a vanagon, go to=

and scroll down. the wheel pictured on my '87 vanagon is the '84-'88 6 spoked audi 5000 turbo wheel. there are other styles of 5000/200 turbo wheels too. there was a multi spoked (Ronal) style used on the '81-'83 5000 gas turbos, and a 5 spoke (Fuchs) style used on the '86-'88 5000 turbo quattros, and a mesh (BBS) style wheel used on the '88-'91 200 turbo quattro's.

they ALL will work.

chris
