Robert, my 82 vanagon diesel does the same thing you speak of. It pulsates at the frequency that the wheels are turning. The shutter dissapates after a longer trip (more than an 1/2 hr) and resurfaces with a cold van. I think the joints are dried up? I'm planning to pull off the driveshafts. clean em up and do a liberal re-grease. My joints don't make any noise, just this driveline shudder....can't be a tire, the lump would't go away. I've also read about flipping the driveshafts to reverse the wear. We'll see if this helps soon. Joel Hembel '82 Westy Diesel
