This is something I have done a few times and it is a little tricky on the diesel tranny. The splinned sleeve must be pushed far enough so that it no longer bridges the joint in the input shaft. Then the end part of the input shaft can be unscrewed. You must position the differential so that the sleeve can move into a recess in it or the sleeve will not be able to move far enough. The clearance is very tight and it is difficult to tell by feel if the sleeve has move far enough. You can not see the joint. Mark Paul A.
