The "weekenders" you mention are just as much Westfalias as the more fully equipped models. However, these Vanagon Campers (Westfalias) without stove & refrigerators were not ever called "Weekender" by VW. When VW used the term "Weekender" in reference to Vanagons it was to describe an feature in passenger model vans where folding rear seat that makes into a bed with a cushion over the engine.
