Frank -
Sorry you have had trouble. My e-mail address is mike_l_f@hotmail.com
Perhaps the silly underscore symbol didn't come through to you.
As far as the fittings go, I don't think it's worth a lot of trouble.
From what you said,it's probably better to get the fittings and hoses at
the same time.
I talked to the parts guy at work (Facilities Management at the
University of Idaho) He has to get parts for all sorts of equipment,
and said that he didn't think that metric hydaulic line fittings would
be that tough to get, because so much equipment, such as tractors, is
imported now.
Of course, it's possible that VW used something unusual. (They would
never do that, would they?)
Thanks for the interesting posts.

Mike I tried to send this to you personally throught the e-mail
address on your original post and it keep bouncing back. Hope you get
this.
Mike, thanks for your comments and interest in my Vanagon Power
steering line solution. I can probably get the fittings from the maker
of the hose but there could be a problem having them put on. As was
explained to me, there are many types of fittings and the machine used
to crimp the fittings to the hose is different for each type. The
different fittings are also not able to fit on all the different hose
types on the market. The fitting has to match the hose, the hose has to
be rated to 1400 lb. or more and the crimper has to be for the type of
fitting used. So I cannot offer you a guarantee that you will be able
to find someone with the proper machine and the proper hose to make up
the hose there. If your still interested in getting the fittings used
by the company that made up my hose let me know and I will contact them
to see if they will sell the fittings and at what cost.
Cheers
Frank
