i assume youre talking about Audi turbo wheels. (tho the 16 spoke ones weren't offered on the '86 turbo, rather the '81-'83 turbo, but i digress....they all fit the same)

do you know that you have to machine the centers of the wheels to 2 5/8 " dia? apparently you havent done that. cost like 10 bucks each at your local machine shop. and as far as your comment regarding structural integrity - that isnt a issue..the amount that is machined off is incredibly minimal. Myself, and a handful of other listmembers are running the Audi turbo wheels on their vans, many of them syncros.

after all that repainting and such, why dont you get them machined and use them?
