1984 Volkswagen vanagon 1.9 L

Trans: Automatic Mileage: 126,909 miles VIN: [No VIN available.] Fuel: digijet

Symptoms: No Start

This is my first volkswagen I've ever worked on before. The owner complained of a hard start. He replaced relays from corrosion and then the fuel pump would not shut off when key on. The injectors are not pulsating when cranking, and now the fuel pump does not run at all when key on. Electrically the van is o.k. I replaced the fuel regulator, it was sticking, thought the was the cause. I pretty sure that the controller is fried. What I need to know is, if the hall switch is bad in the distributer, will it still get spark? i'm getting spark, just no pulsation. Help is really appreciated here. Thanks
