I have to contribute my $.02 to this thread!

If it were my wife, daughter & friend traveling, I would send them off in a rented GM vehicle with the the OnStar system, period. (http://www.onstar.com) That combined with a cell phone would make me worry a whole lot less.

Unfortunately, that is probably not an option for you!

Women (especially young women) traveling alone are extremely vulnerable. My guess is that the Yosemite 3 either picked up someone or had a car problem and accepted a ride or help from someone. Both are no-nos for females traveling alone. Don't try to change a tire by the side of the road, don't flag any one down, and don't accept any rides. Use your cell phone, and if it does not work wait for someone to stop and have them call for help when they get to a phone (DON'T GET IN THE CAR WITH THEM!!!).

I hope the OnStar system soon becomes a portable device that anyone can use, not just the wealthy.

Have a great trip, just be *aware* at all times.
