Jim, I used amsoil synthetic gear oil same weight as the regular stuff just synthethetic. Didn't have to buy it the mechanic stocked it. Didn't turn my own wrench on this one so I couldn't tell you. I was having some other work performed and said what the hey, let them get oily for 30 bucks (including gear oil). Hope that helps,
