Subject: how to remove starter from '87 automatic Vanagon?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I'm trying to replace the starter on my '87 automatic Vanagon, but I'm having a problem with the less-accessible "bolt" that holds the starter to the chassis. The first, more-accessible "bolt" has a nut that comes off with a socket wrench. I can't see the less-accessible "bolt" but it doesn't feel like there's a traditional nut on that "bolt" -- it feels like a round-edged (not six-sided) "nut" on that "bolt".

I can't find this addressed in my Bentley manual. Any suggestions from the list on how to detach this second "nut"?

Thanks!

Chris
