Being and Electronic Designer, this answer is easy. It has nothing to do with the motor itself. SOme dam bean counter said the motor/vehicle was not making the company enough money. Could be. BUT decisions based on money are gennerally poor decisions. Bean counters should never be in any decisions making positions. From an engineering stand point, marketing and technical support also failed, forcing the demise of the Vanagon.
