I used Tough Stuf cleaner on my cover while still installed, removed the cover and rinsed by hand with the garden hose and air dried for a day in the sun. Apparently when i got my '85GL the previous owner must have allowed cats to use the bag bed for cat litter.

I decided to avoid getting the felt bottom wet, though--it didn't need cleaning. Getting the cover back on is a bear though. Anyhow--the smell is gone and the cover stayed clean. Apparently this cover does a great job of keeping moisture away from the foam--there were no stains under the upholstery.
