Subject: FS: '85 Westy w/middle seat, '89 Westy
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
I have an '85 Westy for sale for $4950, and an '89 (previously posted) for
$10,900. Both are full GL Westfalia campers with all of the goodies
(i.e.poptop, sink, stove, fridge, 2 tables, sleeps 4, etc.). Both belonged
to customers of mine.
The '85 is metallic gold in color. It is a two-owner camper, with about
116k on it. Had an engine overhaul about 10k miles ago, along with recent
new exhaust, brakes, etc., and a brand new Volkswagen steering rack several
years back. Mechanically is in very good condition, and has clearly been
taken care of by both owners inside and out. The interior (tan velour) is in
excellent condition, save a very minor cigarette burn mark on one seat. The
body has a very minor scratch/crease at the sliding door (there since it was
a couple of years old) but otherwise is straight and solid. Some typical
seam rust at the lower seam, but not major. What it needs, as far as I
know, is a poptop skylight (leaks as usual), rear heater core (leaks as
usual), sink pump ($20), and air conditioner recharge (blows but not cold).
All tolled, maybe $150 in parts altogether, none of it urgent. A couple of
the utility inlet doors on the side are also busted off (on both vans) as is
typical. Current Pa. inspection thru the end of 1999. Price is $4950.
This van has a very rare optional center swiveling seat. It mounts on the
seat track under the carpet (found on most Westies through somewhere around
'87), and has a storage compartment underneath it. It swivels like the
front seats do. The seat itself is tan velour to match the rest of the van,
but since the seat tracks on it are standard Vanagon issue, any Vanagon
front seat could be used. The seat was in storage since the van was new and
probably hasn't been sat on more than a dozen times. The original owner dug
it out of storage in his garage when he sold the van to the second owner,
who stored it in his garage until now. I'll sell this rarity for $200 with
the purchase of the above van. If and only if the buyer doesn't take it,
I'll sell it for $300 separately.
The '89 Westy was described here before, so I'll post only a recap and you
can search the archives for the original post if interested. it is also a 2
owner vehicle, metallic blue, originally purchased in Germany. 90k original
miles, with a Volkswagen engine overhaul (both heads and head gaskets) at
45k. Auto transmission with brand new seals inside and out. Very good to
excellent condition cosmetically, mechanically, and interior-wise, except
for a key scratch on the drivers side (noticable but not horrible). No air
conditioning. $10,900 firm.
Again, these vans are technically offered by me personally on consignment,
not the Depot, and are sold as is. But they have been, or are soon to be,
fully inspected by the area's best Volkswagen specialist, who could give you
full detail of their mechanical condition. (I always have him look over any
van I buy just to be sure there aren't any significant mechanical problems I
might have overlooked. In the case of the '89, for example, he discovered an
internal trans seal leak I had missed, so I had him disassemble and reseal
the trans for $600 at my expense.) Also, for a couple of months after
purchase, I will give the buyer any parts they need for it at my cost. I'm
in the Philadelphia/Alentown/Reading, Pa. area.
