Spare Parts:
For my commute (11 miles), I carry a cup of coffee and listen to NPR. If my
rig brakes down, I'll just call AAA and get towed home. May have to miss
work that day. Bummer :-) BUT for trips where I will be in the middle of
nowhere, I will typically take with me my tool box, Benteley, radiator hoses
(just normal hoses, not fancy VW ones), belts, alternator, fuel pump, fuel
line, water pump, head lamp, oil and filter, coil and other ignition stuff,
wires, voltmeter, duct tape, electrical tape (duct tape is not an
insulator!), zip ties, hose clamps, Ken Wilfy's phone number, etc etc etc.
Basically, I need to be able to patch my rig so I can limp to a dealer or a
FLAPS. Also, the more auxiliary Bus parts one carries, the less likely your
rig will break down. Always the case. If you are short on $$$ (most of
us??), I will purchase parts at Kragens (AHHHH!!!!), put them under my back
seat, go on the trip and return them in their origional container when I get
home. Most chain-FLAPS have a great return policy- I just "rent" from these
places.
Hope this helps
