I just replaced the 2 inch coolant pipe on the drivers side that runs from the water pump over to a 2 inch hose that connect to the thermostat and 1/2 inch hose running forward. The 2 inch pipe seems to be prone to failure around and above where the 1/2 inch hose connects-I expect that spray from the rear tire kicks water and crude up there. Worth checking if you have an original part. ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>:-) Phillip 87 Westy -----Original Message----- From: Jimmy Sanby [mailto:sanbyj@TELKOM.CO.ZA] Sent: Monday, April 12, 1999 1:27 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Coolant Hose Failure Survey Hi, A rebuilt my 2.1 @ about 120 000Km and soon after that my coolant hoses started to fail. The following hoses burst over a period of about 6 weeks. The short hose in the vacinity of the dipstick. The two hoses near the oil filer. These where the worst to replace. I think that was all as this was about 5 years ago....Nothing else since then - touch wood.... Cheers Jimmy Sanby '89 Syncro 15" Cape Town South Africa
