Jason, I have the exactly same noises in my '88 Syncro, there are two reasons for this. First, the nut for the upper control arm bushings/Camber adjustment keeps coming loose. You can tighten these some, but best is put in new locking nuts. Be aware of the threads, as they are finer than normal M12 nuts. Normally, M12 nuts and bolts have 1,75 mm threads, while the nuts needed on the control arm is 1,5 mm threads. Second, the clunking noise can come from worn out balljoints. I have both loose nuts and a worn out ball joint, it makes a lot of racket when hitting bumps. It is easy to replace the balljoints.
