Back running....

After putting on the snow tires on the front of my new 87 vanagon in February, I broke off one of the "clips" on the back of one of the hubcaps pushing it on to the rusty/dirty rim. This clip holds the round wire tight against the rim to keep it on there tight. So now my hubcap would not fit flat against the rim where the clip broke off. What I did to keep it on was to use a black wire tie through the plastic spoke of the hubcap in and out of 2 adjacent holes in the rim. It helps if you use a very long one and bend it in half push it through and then the bent part (the other end) just needs to be pulled forward toward you and connected. Trim the excess off with a pair of wire cutters.

This would keep your hubcaps from rotating I would think.

I was able to just gently twist the hubcap to break the wire tie when I had to take the snows off last week. Using more than one tie could make it hard to remove the hubcap so you'd need, scissors, wire cutters or even toe nail clippers to cut the tie off if you get a flat so you don't reck your hubcap getting it off if you get a flat.

This seemd to work as I really did not want to buy or get one hubcap, or get a new set because I broke one clip on one.

Can anyone make me feel good and share some stupid ways they screwed up there vanagon as i cracked the windshield in my vanagon Saturday loading it up with wood. Flush there goes $150 add $10 if I want the tint on the top of it.
