I confess, I am the responsible party <g>. We can thank the list for bringing us together. I have been a lurker and occasional poster for a couple of years; a white GL Syncro Westy has been my dream car for about 10 years!

My wife and I drove it down the coast from Monterey, CA (via Hwy 1), it (he/she?) ran beautifully, even in the POURING rain and 30-40 mph gusts (not like my old type 2!). Camped Sat night at Plaskett Creek campground about 60 mi. south of Carmel. My wife kept looking at me as we were driving down the coast and teasing me about the stupid grin on my face.... Even our 2-year old daughter loves it! Arrived in Santa Barbara about lunch time Sunday. As soon as this rain lets up, its time to modify the garage so the Syncro will fit. (need about 2" or so...)

Used 11.6 gallons of gas for the 197 mile trip. (~17 mpg - I am pleasantly surprised!). I poked along, never exceeding 70 mph on the flats, and sticking to about 30-60 mph most of the time. (Yes, the drive shaft and front axles are there :-) I thought Syncro Westies only got about 15 mpg. (BTW, what is a good "cruising speed" to best maintain engine life?)

I want to thank Art (and the PO) for taking such GREAT care of this car. I have had it home less than 24 hrs, and I have already totally detailed it... I have a daunting task of keeping it as well maintained! :-)
