Let's see.  5 x 36 = 180.  So they are willing to fork out $180.00 + parts,
eh.  That's not much of a waranty, when the cheapest head gasket job I could
find for my 82 was $300.00 from a guy that, in retrospect, I shouldn't have
used.  The average around here for ANY import head gasket job seems to be
$500.00.  The high end for the Vanagon that I found was well over $700.00.
They probably include the guy in West VA that charges a box of chicken
fingers for labor when they compute their so - called national average.
That's called a ripoff, not a waranty.  If you don't get better treatment, I
will never use AVP.

As far as HOW the work is done, that's up to the mechanic.

You may want to let them know that everyone on this list is tracking this
incident.
