This is why I am thinking of doing the work myself, or finding a good local rebuilder. Shipping costs are nonexistent.

AVP should fix this under warranty themselves. Defective seals are covered by their warranty just like a defective piston would be, and if they are unwilling to pay the true cost of the repair done locally you will have to remove the engine and ship it back, but they should pay for shipping. Check with the Attorney General's office in your state and in California for your rights under this warranty.

If you paid by credit card, and I hope you did, call them too and dispute the charge due to the defective product. That is the only way you will have real leverage!
