Duane--

You, of course, are nuts.

I'm in search of VW hubcaps that will fit over the hub on the front wheels of my Vanagon with stock steel wheels. This, to avoid the adventures with the plastic spoke and fake lug nut hub caps I have now.

Has anyone had luck fitting VW Golf caps on the Vanagon? I just tried a 98 Golf hubcap and it wouldn't fit over the hub on the front or the nut on the rear hub. Perhaps some GOLF hub cap models have more center clearance. Anybody had any luck? Which years fit?

The later model Vanagon saucer hub caps are pretty dull IMHO.

Duane, like you, I thought I was nuts when I bought my bus (which, of course I was) because there was this constant ticking surrounding my bus. To make a long story short I took off all the hubcaps and the noise dissappeared. So I put the caps back on and have lived with the ticking. Once I hit about 30 MPH there's enough road noise to overcome the ticking. ( the DPO busted all the underneath plastic off the hub caps and rivited them to wheel trim rings--which actually works OK except for the noise)
